Impressions of Resistance: Participatory Design Making
Friday, September 26, 6–9 PM
Location: 323 West 39th Street 2nd Floor, New York, NY 10018
Join Mobile Print Power (MPP) and the Robert Blackburn Printmaking Workshop (RBPW) for a hands-on participatory design and silkscreen printing workshop.
Over the years, MPP has cultivated a collaborative process that engages the public in creating prints and responding to prompts about social change through illustrations and written reflections. These responses are preserved in collecting books that now hold hundreds of entries from workshops across New York City. This workshop builds on that tradition by honoring community voices and collective creativity. Together, participants will explore past community contributions, collaborate on sketches, and transform those ideas into a finalized, screen-printed design.
Using the resources and facilities of RBPMW, we will translate public responses into vibrant artwork that reflects shared visions of resistance, resilience, and change. Whether you’re an experienced artist or new to printmaking, this session invites you to contribute your voice and creativity to a collective process — and leave with a print made by and for the community.
Each participant will take home a print, and the remaining prints will be donated to Mobile Print Power and the Robert Blackburn Printmaking Workshop to support their operations and programming.
