Cannonball Press

Cat Fight is a recent product of duo Mike Houston and Martin Mazorra, who together form Cannonball press. They have recently begun collaborating on images by cutting on the same blocks; Cat Fight is their second such work. The imagery, inspired by a recent visit to South America, blends costume party camp with serious social and political problems affecting both South America and the USA. Houston and Mazorra are on the forefront of a nationwide resurgence of interest in graphic works. Their punishing exhibition schedule and monumental public projects have encouraged younger artists to take up the medium and join them in building upon the graphic traditions of Posada, Rembrandt and Durer. You can visit Cannonball Press' website at www.cannonballpress.com

Cannonball Press has a particular passion for relief printing. Their images are chock full of social satire, sardonic wit, and humor that skirts the edges of a truly American counterculture: hillbilly pirate rock’n’roll. Houston and Mazorra live and work in Brooklyn, NY and log more road trips than the average rock band. They recently returned from South Africa where they wove a 70’ rock python, constructed entirely of wood cut images of endangered African animals, through a crowd of thousands like a Chinese Dragon.
