About the Book:

8 Winds is a variable edition artist book comprised of 18 full spread images, inspired by Mueller’s hiking and biking excursions into Iceland’s extreme landscapes. The techniques Mueller utilized to create the images for his book allowed him to approach it as an evolving work of art; this sense of reaction and action with the book is in line with his perception of the physical, emotional and intellectual effects the winds have had on him. 8 Windshas moments of turbulence and desperation punctuated by moments of ultimate serenity. Just as Aeolus bound all the winds within a purse for Odysseus, Mueller has bound up the winds within this book.

About the Artist

Robert Mueller is a Fulbright Scholar and a Professor at the University of Florida where he runs the Alagarto Press Co. He is also a wilderness enthusiast, and has spent months at a time in Iceland, crossing formidable and beautiful landscapes in solitary and contemplative pursuit of art and survival. Mueller’s work is primarily in book format, often resulting in an installation presentation due to the large scale.
