2021-22 Blackburn Print Excellence Award

Farah Mohammad

Farah Mohammad is the recipient of the Blackburn Print Excellence Award 2021 - 22.

Farah Mohammad (b. 1993, Karachi, Pakistan) is a printmaker and installation artist based in NYC. Pictured here is a monotype print Farah has been working on in the printshop. Her process involves creating images with oil paint and ink on plexiglass using paint brushes, tape, rollers, and handmade stencils, and transferring those images in registered layers onto a sheet of paper through the printing press. Farah draws inspiration from images she captures of urban spaces undergoing change. She breaks images down into shapes around which she builds the main subject, taking an emotional inventory of their personal symbolism.

Farah teaches the Fluid Monotype class at EFA Robert Blackburn Printmaking Workshop. She received her BA from Bennington College and her MFA from Columbia University. Her exhibition highlights include Half Gallery, International Print Center New York (IPCNY), The Jewish Museum, The Wallach Art Gallery, Field Projects, LeRoy Neiman Gallery, Chashama Gallery (NYC), Local Project Art Space (LIC, NY), Moss Art Center, Blacksburg, VA. She was the recipient of the LES Keyholder Residency in 2021 and is the Artist in Residence at Cornerstone Studios. Her solo exhibition was at Nyama Fine Art in NYC in 2022, and her work has been acquired for the permanent collection by the Baltimore Museum of Art.
