Etching I will teach students all the basic techniques necessary to create and print copper etchings. Students will learn how to create an image on a copper plate, etch the plate in acid, ink and print the incised lines. Students will learn plate preparation, drypoint, hard ground line etching, soft ground etching, aquatint, and how to print and register to create an edition. All materials are provided. Beginners are welcome, no prior printmaking experience necessary!
NOW AVAILABLE! This class now offers the option to be 6-week session. The two extra sessions will offer students the opportunity to spend more time with the process, with more dedicated instructor time. Any demos will be based on student requests or needs.
The workshop is offering students that wish to enroll in both Etching I and Etching II from our core curriculum a special 10% discount.
Classes include all materials (unless otherwise noted) along with free studio hours to use in the workshop. Class hours expire a month after the last day of the class. You do not need to pick-up any materials in advance to prepare for this class; once registered, you may come to RBPMW on the day/time of your class. You must cancel your registration 2 weeks prior to the start of the class to receive a 90% refund or 100% class credit. No full refunds will be issued after payment due to online processing fees.
