Silkscreen and monoprints are versatile mediums ideal for beginner and experience printmakers. They are especially suitable for artists interested in drawing, painting, and color. In this class we’ll combine silkscreen with monoprint to create variable editions or unique one of-a-kind screen prints.

Monoprints are typically painterly in effect and made by applying ink, crayon, colored pencil, or paint to a flat surface (in this case a silkscreen) and then printing them on paper. We’ll also create silkscreen stencils using photo emulsion, glassine, or paper and combine them with the monoprints. We’ll explore building layers of transparent and opaque colors, and will learn about mixing ink, registration, ghost images and silkscreen set-ups and printing.
