Learn all about monoprinting without a press, using a gelatin substrate. Also known as Hectograph, gelatin monotypes are fun and easy to make at home using water based inks and paint. The soft gelatin surface make for a really beautiful transfer of ink to paper.
Materials:
photo tray, cake pan, large plastic container or other type of tray to hold gelatin
unflavored gelatin to prepare plate prior to first class
printmaking paper cut to fit inside your tray
Water-based paints or inks such as watercolors, guache, sumi inks, akua inks, water based block printing inks, water soluble markers,“re-wettable” media works best
soft paint brushes, like watercolor brushes
paper for cutting stencils or store bought stencils
sponges, other soft objects to make textures
rubber brayers to apply ink
a surface to mix and/ or roll out inks such as a sheet of plexiglass.
