GESTURAL TRACE MONOTYPE

Description
In the first week we’ll cover the process for making trace monotypes. In the second week we’ll focus on watercolor monotypes. You can also use printing inks or acrylics instead of watercolors.
MATERIALS
-Oil paint or any printing ink
-Brayer or brush
-Palette
-Sheets of newsprint or any scrap paper
-Pencil/anything to draw with
-Paper for your final image (you’ll need printmaking paper if you want to try watercolor monotype; if you only have watercolor or drawing paper there will be alternative methods you can do instead)
-Watercolors and brushes*
-Plexiglass, Mylar, Duralar, overhead projector sheet, glass, any monotype plate
-Metal or wooden spoon, baren or bone folder
-Clean tray (to soak printmaking paper)
-Towel or blotting paper
Optional:
-Sandpaper or steel wool
-Gum arabic or liquid dish soap, rag
*Alternatives to watercolors (you’ll also need brushes/brayer/painting tools):
-Acrylics (you’ll also need OPEN Acrylic Gel)
-Printing ink
