In this class we will use existing plates to experiment with printmaking, gluing and mixed media techniques. These include printing on beautiful, translucent Japanese Kozo paper using multiple plates, repeats, ghosts, bleeds and folds. We will compose and glue the prints on thicker paper to create layered, complex pieces. You will also have the option of integrating old prints, drawing, watercolor, sewing etc. into your work. The emphasis will be on exploring the flexibility of the print medium with new techniques. Several types of gluing methods will be taught, including Japanese Nori rice paste, PVA, (wet glue), Gudy (dry glue) and Fusion 4000 (heat activated glue). Image composition, deckle edge paper cutting and relevant plate wiping methods will be discussed.

Important Note: This is an advanced class - previous printmaking experience and at least one finished plate is required. Most plates including copper, woodblock, linocut, collograph, solar plate or monotypes can be used.
